My Computer Technician Bag
Since being cooped up at home during Covid, I’ve been hankering to work on my computer technician kit. I have always had a good kit, however I was in the need to upgrade and add some equipment.
The items I chose for my kit suit my job, which range from computer repair, networking, cabling, and pentesting. I have several other kits, however they focus on electronics, electrical, and more specialized pentesting gear, and are not covered in this article.
My laptop is a Lenovo Thinkpad E15, with a Ryzen 5700U CPU, and 16GB of RAM. I’m running Ubuntu, as I use this for my pentesting engagements.
To hold all my gear, I decided to go with a SwissGear Carry-On Backpack, that supports up to a 17.3 inch laptop, and has many pouches.
For my WiFi pentesting, I’m using a Raspberry Pi 4 8GB, running Kali Linux. I’ve connected it to a Alfa WiFi adapter, and an 18000 mAh battery pack. I’m also using a Netgear switch, which I converted to use 5 volt USB power, so I can have everything portable, and run on battery. I also decided to buy a WiFi Pineapple from Hak5, and have been testing it out.
My PC tool kit is the oldest piece in my pack, and is an old Nexxtech PC tool kit from Radio Shack from the 90’s, but still works great.
